Maria A. Quiroga

Maria checks in from Boston, MA where she is an attorney specializing in civil practice. She graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 1976 and in 1977 was one of the first Hispanic women admitted to the Bar in MA. Maria is married to Alvin Shiggs and has 2 children Nicholas (27) a teacher in a charter school and Sara who is currently working as an accounts payable clerk at a Boston hotel while she pursues an entry level position in broadcasting.

Maria writes "Active in various community and civic organizations, promoting economic and affordable housing development; diversity, equal opportunities for girls and young women. Very involved in parish lay leadership and organizing to keep parish open as an integral part of the broader community. Enjoy traveling to new and familiar places (favorite getaway is Aruba), as well as visiting family and friends. Since my children were actively involved in sports-Nicholas played high schools and college football, Sara played soccer in high school and college and has been an in the stands vendor at Fenway Park since high school - I have also joined the ranks of the avid Patriots and Red Sox fans! Very fond memories of many of the classes, after school activites, especially the " school spirit" at basketball games in the gym and most importantly the friendships made during those 4 years. I especially remember Mrs. Fayerweather and the crazy times in Girls Leaders Club and the dynamic brilliant nuns in the science department, Sr. Barbara, Sr. Maria and Sr. James Gerard, who were some of the strongest female role models I have ever met. I really enjoyed "catching up" with folks on this blog and look forward to seeing many of you at the reunion."
