Ellen Zak

Ellen is a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth currently serving at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Holbrook, New York. She writes about her many stops in her ministry --

My first assignment was to St. Peter Claver School in Bedford Stuyvesant. I was a science and social studies teacher for grades1-4. The Westinghouse Company piloted a program in 1972 for inner city schools called PLAN (Programmed Learning According to Needs). This was not very effective and therefore, you probably never heard of such a program! My next assignment was to St. Isidore School in Riverhead, NY. I taught religion to the Catholic School Children and was the Director of Religious Education in the Parish. After 12 years I moved on to St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Islip Terrace, NY. After 13 years there I became the Director of Religious Education in my present Parish, Good Shepherd Church. I am also an Advocate for the Marriage Tribunal, Diocese of Rockville Centre and have a certificate in Family Counseling from Iona College.

I've had the privilege of working with the Glenmary Home Missioners in rural Kentucky, directing a Vacation Bible School Program. When not busy working I enjoy tennis and photography.

Marianne Munier - Adventurer

Marianne, our reunion chairperson, shares the following:

Attended Katherine Gibbs after HS and worked for a few years before having my first daughter. Became a stay at home mom (total of 4 children) and then moved to Scottsdale, AZ. for 10 years. Worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Chairman of the Board and the CEO of a state bank for 6 years before moving back to NJ in 1986. Took a position with AT&T for 16 years as a finance manager before given the ax in 2002 - finished 3/4 of my degree on their money and qualified for my retiree medical benefits. Went back to school to study nursing (instead of finance management) and worked in an OB/GYN office (great idea to get me ready for the ups and downs when my youngest daughter got pregnant). Had the opportunity to do some disecting in the gross anatomy lab to see and handle all the bodily organs up close and personal. Once you get by the smell, you got it licked. Now I have my own businesses to keep up with as well as chasing after my two grandsons (two more on the way before year end).

I love to travel anytime, anywhere. Have had the opportunity to visit Italy twice, Greece, Spain, France, Hawaii (three times - just returned), Austria, Alaska, Canada, Peru, and most of the Caribbean islands (as you can see from my picture, I love cruising), and of course many more of the US states. I try to keep my feet on the ground, but couldn't resist going skydiving.
What a thrill to jump out of a little propeller plane at 11,000 feet in the air (tandem - I'm not that brave)! My two sons, son-in-law, and sister took the plunge also. Can't wait to do it again!
